Patton State Hospital is a psychiatric hospital located in San Bernardino, California. Opened in 1893 as the Southern California State Asylum for the Insane and Inebriates, it was renamed Patton State Hospital after Harry Patton, a member of the first Board of Managers, in 1927. Patton is a state run, forensic hospital. Managed by the Department of State Hospitals, it is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.〔(The Joint Commission: Quality Report – Summary of Accreditation Quality Information )〕 ==Burials of deceased patients== From its opening until 1934, some 2,024 patients died and were buried on the hospital grounds.〔(California Department of State Hospitals: The California Memorial Project )〕 A memorial for them was erected and efforts are under way to identify the deceased patients.
